I was trying to figure out when cars went from "horseless carriages", to automobiles. I think it was rather sudden, but I'm not sure.

Just a followup on the car photo I posted earlier. Someone on an antique car forum suggested a model that appears to fit quite well. A 1909/10 Oldsmobile Model DR "Flying Roadster". I haven't been able to find any online photos of a similar restored car. Here is something from that time:

The only difference I can see is that the horn appears to have been remounted upside down in my photo. The cost of this car when new was $2750, which was about the same as what a nice, average home cost.

    Hi,
I have a 1928 National Geographic which has a new RCA radio for 1200 dollars and two pages later is a brand new Lincoln town car for 750 dollars. When I bought my first hand held calculator in the 1960s it was 125 dollars.

I discovered this thread when I posted something else recently and have enjoyed looking at everyone's photos. The photo below is one that I just texted to my granddaughter because she recently got a puppy after several years of begging for one. This photo was taken about 100 years ago of my mother (the little girl in the center with the big smile), her sisters, and some friends. My mother's family was among those who left Wisconsin in the early 1900s for the opportunity to homestead in Montana where the photo was taken, but they couldn't make a go of it and eventually had to move back to Wisconsin. Kids&Puppies.jpg
Thought I would also post the photo below of my dad (sitting in front second from right) with his school mates and teacher in front of the one-room country school they attended in Wisconsin (I'm guessing it was taken about 1911-13). My dad didn't go beyond the 8th grade, but did well in life. I also attended a school like this until it closed when I was in the 5th grade and there were only 8 students left (3 from my own family). We then had to ride a bus to the "big" school in town (it had indoor restrooms--yay!). I'm wondering if there are others on this forum who were educated in one-room country schools. My mother taught in one before she married my dad.

    Hey @moreotherstuff
Thank you very much, I've saved it.

He was a pretty scary bloke in later life and very Victorian in his beliefs.

He was a hard non religious man.
I never had a wrong word with him.

    Hello everyone!

First time posting here. I recently got a picture at a thrift store for the frame and look who was hidden underneath! He was hidden behind the Will Rodgers print on top. Too bad I don’t have any information on who he is. Cute little guy though!

He's dear. And someone loved him so. Look at the carefully chosen striped shirt with the polka dot tie.

I like the way the older child leans into his mom.

Not a happy family pose though. Father completely disengaged and mother not embracing either child.

Got this antique photo of a small grocery store recently. Apologies - My photo of it isn't the greatest.
