I'd think she's more likely from a Southeast Asian country such as Indonesia.

The more I looked at her the more I thought it may be further in that direction. Glad you suggested it. These two similar pictures confirm your suspicion I believe.

Those earrings are quite distinctive. They appear to be traditional subeng from Indonesia. But this is Any Jewelry's area of expertise. Sure she'll have much to share.

Yes, she is Indonesian. These paintings were made a lot on Java in the mid 20th century, mostly for the tourist trade. These semi-nude ones are of Balinese girls. There are also a versions with Javanese girls, wearing a kebaya.
Similar ones are still being made, but yours is mid-century imo.

The signature looks like Hasi--? I don't think the name is all that important.
In case you google the name and come across the well-known Indonesian painter Hasim, it is not by him.;)
And unfortunately she is not of the quality of the Hofker painting you found online either. My avatar pic is also by Hofker, btw.

I figured that was probably the era. Thanks for all the info. I looked at a lot of them online and the older ones are mostly much nicer than the newer ones.

As a follow up I quickly moved from room to room looking for her at the sale. As it turned out I was too late and someone else ran off with my lady before I got there. It’s not the first time but I hope it’s the last.
