That's a tough one. Can you make anything out on the sticker remnants?

Darn. I was hoping there might be something (though very faded.) I've got nothing.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Does this make any sense to you??? I reversed the image, then separated the bottom half and flipped it around horizontally......thought it might help.....just can't tell...

How did you get that “MEIL”?
Argent, what is it, French for silver? With no purity mark it means plated I guess?

Possibly "Not JCM but JGM for Johan Georg Meijer Sr., Amsterdam, 1828/1860"on 925-1000.com site, but the link doesn't load for me.

I'm sceptical of how a punch intended to be MEIL could be misused in anyway to produce what's on your piece. Interesting idea, but I'm not seeing it.

And as for argent (yes, in French that's the word for silver) the letter that would have to be the G, looks like a D to me.

It's unfortunate that the images being discussed are no longer visible. But from the discussion it appears that there were other standard Dutch marks for solid silver on the piece in addition to the JGM.

The letters look strange somehow. Maybe not Latin? The second one reminds me of the Cyrillic letter “Б”. Can’t find anything Cyrillic that looks like the first letter. English J is what I thought first but have bot seen J like this on silver.
