I kinda get both sides of this. It can be annoying when multiple people start picking apart an item you of yours. Happened much more on the old ebay forums. People calling an item common junk, import trash, and so on. But, the key point is, they are talking about the item, not you personally.

It's not worth losing friends, or at least people who can help you in the future, over comments about one item.

The forums are educational for the inexperienced if they do not deny the experience of others. The goblet is 150+years old,no one knows who engraved it,was it an apprentice, journeyman, etc. It is not a master engraver's work, there are hundreds of hand engravers today with different experience.

Master engraver Sam Alfano's work.... https://www.google.com/search?q=sam...Xk1IMKHdKmBvsQ_AUoAnoECAAQBA&biw=1589&bih=873

    Hi Shangas,
I am sorry that someone got your goat. Please do not throw the rest of us under the bus. You are a well known loved member of this board. I know we all throw hissy fits once in a while.

I'm not concerned about what people think about me or don't think about me. I'm concerned about the fact that I came here to get some honest answers and only one person even tried to help, and all the others could do is nitpick and quibble over the details and offer no appreciable assistance whatsoever, but felt obligated to post anyway.

    my post #2.......very nice
    My post # 16...... 84...silver purity mark

I'm the only one who answered your question about the marks...with information.
I was the 1st to say it's nice..........

"and only one person even tried to help"
    &
"all the others could do is nitpick"

    I'm sorry.....those statements are in error....& uncalled for !
That's not what happened.....& everyone can see it !!!

I like to think people think good about me......here for sure.....as I'm part of a community !!

But painting everyone with the same brush.....by sayin stuff that ain't true..

    That ain't right !

Hi Komo. I didn't mean to insult you, I just felt extremely frustrated by the fact that the best that people could do is make fun of the situation instead of trying to offer any genuine assistance.

As it is, I've found out just about everything I wanted to know about the beaker's hallmarks from sources outside of this forum as a result of all those responses. I may have to consider that in the future.

Well, you know we all go nuts over your posted finds here...your writing boxes....& most silver.....in all shapes and sizes.....& you know that one does not always get the answers they're looking for ....and comments can vary.:wacky::wacky:

Keeping this in mind .....not every piece is a winner & not every comment is positive.:(

So, be less frustrated....& if a comment comes along that you don't agree with ....challenge it.....& hash it out.;)

I wasn't insulted, so much as upset that the several members who posted positive comments ....were not given credit for their harmless and friendly posts.

I'm ready to move on to your next lovely find !!!:)
