i dont usually buy this type of thing cause i see plated/cut glass items everywhere, but thought this one was quite nice, and couldnt say no

has no markings, so i guess probably plated

i thought the chap was bacchus, but am i right in thinking he wouldnt be on a cruet set ?

what would i do without you lot

    thanks

Perhaps, the Green Man. (I'd have bought it too!)

Hard to say who the man is. I agree not likely Bacchus, but not really the Green Man either (although certainly closer than B.)

Remind me where you are Charlie?

Thanks, that's what I thought I remembered, but didn't trust that memory. ;)

Was the metal tarnished when you got it? The designs around the "men" look sort of like ones used in the late 1800's but that is not always a conclusive way to judge age.

Have you looked all over the 2 metal lids for markings too?

the charity shop had given it a quick clean up before putting on shelf, you can still see that pink cleaning fluid everywhere.

yeah, ive looked in all the lids and there's nothing

i like the fact that theres no base metal showing through anywhere

    The robots are very prompt!

Too bad the maker didn't bother to mark it.

    Hi,
I had one that had no info on either. When I unscrewed the handle from the base for a good cleaning I found the makers mark under the bottom of the handle.

He does not quite fit the conventions for Bacchus, more like a cross between the Green Man & a Chinese sage, with a touch of satyr. No reason Bacchus couldn't be on a cruet caddy. He's always appropriate on anything that suggests conviviality, dining & drinking. I have him on my doorknocker.

I was thinking of adding, 'Although this is a long way from being a party place.' The last time the police knocked when sent here on incorrect info (2nd time in no more than 2 months), one of the officers complimented me on it. You don't see them so much on apartment doors.
