Hoping for some help with this cloth doll. She's 24", has yarn hair. Only the face and feet are stuffed with cotton (not straw). No identification stamp anywhere. Looks like she's been tea dyed. There's some hand stitching but the bonnet, wrap and dress are machine stitched.

The face looks printed. Not embroidered or drawn on. I haven't been able to find a doll like this.

Hoping to get some help re era, description, etc.

Would you say it has been machine or hand stitched? It would help to indicate its age.

She looks like she might be a pajama doll that you made from a pattern.

She doesn't appear to have her body filled? She may have been used as a Tea-Cosy?

A pajama doll would hold your pajamas when you went to spend the night at a friends.

@ritzyvintage "There's some hand stitching but the bonnet, wrap and dress are machine stitched." That's what I indicated in my original post. Here's some additional info then:
    Machine stitched: bonnet, cape, dress.
Hand stitched: bottom of outfit, ruffled ankles, sole of feet, finger separations, bottom of bonnet to head, and cape to neck.

I'm pretty sure the body was never filled. I think she was made like this.

@Bookahtoo I've never heard of pajama dolls. Fabric is about 22" wide when laid out. I can see pajamas fitting in there prior to bottom being sewn up. I'll do a search for that type of doll.

Any other info would be appreciated.

That's what she looks like to me too. With the turban and curled fringe, I'd guess 1940s.

    Hi,
They were all the rage in the 1940s, taught girls to "hide" their PJs so the room looked neat.

A pajama bag doll sounds reasonable to me.

I'm somewhat familiar with Art Fabric Mills printed fabric dolls, but the ones I've seen/had were always full bodies stuffed. I think their bodies were printed also, and were finished at home.

Maybe @sassafras can be of some help.

I agree with all of the above. She's a pajama doll from the 1940s, and quite a cute one at that. :)

I've heard of the kits for them, but I've never run across one in person to see the actual printing that was done. Might have to see if I can track one down...my curiosity is piqued!

Thank you, everyone. Did pajama dolls always have the opening in the back? This one doesn't. Was the opening ever at the bottom?

Also, do these ever go earlier than 1940s? The reason I ask is the style of her bonnet, small cape and possibly the colors of the outfit look more Edwardian?
