I don’t know if it’s after an original but the scene and the style look very familiar. Can’t check for signature because the sheet has slipped down and the lower part is covered by the mat.
Backing paper signed with Jack Ryan but no clue if that’s the name of the artist or the previous owner.
    Any thoughts?

Color choices are kind of VanGogh-esque to me. I rather like it.

Very California landscape in a style developed by Diebenkorn, Kondos and Thiebaud. Doesn't look like the work of a fully-formed artist.

I also think that it’s not by a total amateur but not bu highly advanced artist either.

Agree, not highly professional, but there is something about it. I like it.

Is it true that Jack besides given name is also a nickname for John?

    Hi,

Can you somehow turn it upside down and tap it to make it slide down to show the name?

President John F. Kennedy was called Jack.

I tried to tap it but it did not work. It is possible that Jack Ryan was the owner but not the artist.

I guess it could be either. Did you try a bright light to see if you can make out anything?

If you were planning to sell this, wouldn’t you need to show the signature if there is one? Maybe you’d need to have it reframed, then you would know.
