Featured How would you describe this Coalport piece?

    This fine Coalport bow pattern dish was just delivered.

    It is quite large at 25cm x 17cm and is nicely shaped.

    I found an identical one online (at a stupid price) describing it as an “oval notched dish”.

    it’s too big for a teapot so do you reckon it could be a tureen stand?

    I'd expect a stand to have more of a pronounced indent.

    A meat or Fish platter/tray perhaps? The 4 grooves/lips for pouring away excess fluids/meat juices.

    @John Brassey The more commonly seen Blue & White examples were also used as meat platters and/or trivet trays.

    My grandma would have used that for brisket.

    Mmm ..with that beautiful painted design it doesn't look like it's made for carving or serving meat, I'd say it's for cakey or fruit, desserts anyway ...and how would you describe it? GUSHINGLY! :hilarious:

    25 cm is slightly small for it to be for meats perhaps? Maybe its a salad dish?
