This little cross comes from Romania. Can't seem to get a really good picture of the mark because it is so small. DSCN1109.JPG DSCN1110.JPG DSCN1111.JPG DSCN1112.JPG

    Period? Probably interbellum.

    03? 33?
    NU, MU or HU?
    925

    Any information is welcome. Thanks.

The marks are a bit sloppy, difficult to make out anything.
The design looks ca 1970, but could be later.
From what I can make out, the marks don't look Romanian. I don't know of sterling silver production in Romania. The official finenesses that come closest are .950 and .916, these are still used.
    The .950 mark:

    The .916 mark:

It was probably made somewhere else and imported into Romania.

A young woman gave it to me back in 2011 and said she got it from her grandma who had it for a long time. That's all I know. Probably eastern European.

A long time can mean different things to different people.;)
I don't recognize the marks as Eastern European, but I may be missing something. 925 is not a usual fineness in older Eastern European silver, it has been used in for instance Poland since the 1990s, if I am correct.
Maybe @Aquitaine can work her magic on the marks to make them more recognizable?

Yes, I know. But the little cross was really dark black, couldn't even see it had markings. Baking soda did the job...

Tarnish on silver can happen quite fast, depending on the circumstances. A 1990s piece could already be black, a 1970 piece most certainly, in certain conditions.
I'm sure Aquitaine will give improvement a try, and hopefully we'll see more.
It is a pretty little cross, by the way, I love the Modernist/Brutalist look.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

HAHA!!! Don't be so sure, AJ, those are tough marks!!! I've been playing with them awhile and am not getting any more than you did!!!! They are a bit blurry to begin with, which I understand may be because of their size, but dang.....hard to pull anything more out......The two in the middle look like, to ME!, "NI" and the bottom section starts with a "9" I'm pretty sure....can't tell the rest, and sorry but I just can't tell for the top impressions......but @RinTinTin, if you want to try for a crisper picture, MAYBE I can do more.......could the top one say something like "--K"?? It IS a pretty little cross for sure!!!!! Is it gold looking or is that just my computer screen??

No, it's not gold. It is 925 for sure. I can see that 'clearly' with a loupe. The rest? Can't be sure, too blurry. I guess it will remain a mystery.

Just a little observation, this would be called a crucifix, not a cross, because the figure of Christ is on it. A cross has no figure :)

I was led to believe it could be called a cross in either case, with or without, just that it is only a crucifix when there was a Christ figure on it. From cruci fixus, attached to the cross.
At least that's how we theologians called them, cross the general thing, crucifix a specific type. But theologians have a very long history of getting things wrong.;)

Maybe it is one of those European things. Here is the sketch by st John of the Cross of his vision of the cross (with Christ) he was called after:

The sketch and the vision inspired Dalí to make his famous painting. St John of the Cross was an artist as well as a priest and mystic, his mystic writings are very poetic.
