Hi, I'm new here! I'm in the south west of England.

I have a full eternity ring I inherited from my mother, and I'd like to find out more about it if I can, like what style it is and what cut the diamonds are.

It was probably bought in the 1950s, is platinum but has no hallmarks that I can see, has 26 little square diamonds round it. The ring is around 2mm wide. Here's the best photo I can manage. Any info would be very welcome. I'm having to sell it toward some improvements to my manual wheelchair.

Are you sure it's platimum and not white gold? I've a very similar one, white gold. It's not going to be massively of value in the UK, which is a real shame. The diamonds are too small, sadly. I'd think about £100 ish to £150.

I've been told by about four different jewellers that it's platinum, so I'm not sure but they were? I don't know how to tell the difference, but my mum also told me it was.

Little round diamonds in square settings. They may be what is called an illusion setting, which makes the stone look bigger than it really is.

It doesn't look like an illusion setting, appears more like bead set with a bright cut setting.

Pretty ring. Have you got a loupe to look closely as the hallmarks can be tiny and take some finding. I’ve got one like that and it’s marked on the rim in amongst the wavy pattern on the outside. Mine is 18ct and the mark is very worn so it may look just like a deviation to the pattern now.
Welcome from Gloucestershire by the way! :)

Did the jewellers actually test the ring? They may have been going on colour, which isn't unreasonable.

The only sure way is to have it acid tested.

Lovely ring, I always like eternities.
They look square because of the way they are set, with four 'beads' around them. They could be brilliant cut, but the photo is a bit blurry just where the diamonds are.
As @Ownedbybear said, small diamonds are not very valuable. The platinum would make the value.
Did they say anything about the value?

Btw, as a former wheelchair user, what improvements are you thinking of?

I haven't had it valued since 12 years ago, when I was told £200 and £2000 by two different jewellers *rolls eyes*.

I've been using a manual wheelchair for 15 months now, but I have ME/CFS and am missing some muscles, so I'm trying to get the funds together for power assist (in my case Alber e-motions wheels). It doesn't sound like this ring is worth much, though, so I may not bother to try selling it during a plague...

Not exactly the same, but similar here. I have ME too, not missing muscles, but missing some spinal nerves that control muscles, due to polio.
Aren't you eligible for one in the UK? I am in the Netherlands, btw.
It is best to stay inside if you have ME. Your immune system will be dodgy, and you don't want an extra virus to trigger something else, believe me.

Greetings @orm-irian I'm based in England too... You're in very safe hands, there are some very knowledgeable jewellery folks on here, but sadly I'm not one of them :( I'm sure they will assist you as best they can! :)

I wish I could tell you it's worth more. You could email Toovey's in Lewes who are very good with jewellery, see what they think an auction estimate is.

Have you looked at Motability to help fund the wheelchair? I'm presuming you've claimed DLA or PIP? Some local CCGs are also funding them.

    Also, this: https://www.dtdcharity.com/

Sadly, Wheelchair Services in the UK are so drastically underfunded (like the rest of our poor health service under the current government) that they struggle to provide equipment for people who cannot walk at all (I'm slightly ambulatory). I fundraised for my chair, and I've managed to get some help from charitable trusts towards the power wheels, but most people I know have had to fundraise for their mobility gear.

If you're on PIP you ought to be Motability eligible.

@orm-irian can you get good photos of the ring laid flat to see if we can spot a mark on it? Sometimes I’ve failed to find a mark on my jewellery until I’m about to load a photo of it on here and then spy it.
Actually being honest the hallmark is probably spotted by INH when I post it :hilarious:

I lost my own Motorbility entitlement under our new government and the ridiculous DWP so-called "PIP medical assessment"... many disabled people are being refused by DWP decision makers who have no medical knowledge, whilst others are having to go trough the court-appeal process which takes months to address.
