THOUGHTS ON ANTIQUE PAINTING I WON AT AN AUCTION TODAY?

I won this ld painting at a auction today - $35! So even though it has some damage I thought it was worth it?

The auctioner said it was by "Schartt" but I think it's "Scharff" - and the purple in the sky makes me think it may be by Erma Scharff - a German artist September 9/9/1895 -3/1/1982
    (http://www.askart.com/artist/Erna_S_Scharff/11240651/Erna_S_Scharff.aspx)

Plus, besides spelling out her last name instead of script as the artist of my painting does; the top of the S is flat instead of curved - like mine also.
    Example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Early...Canvas-Painting-Country-Cottage-/331966239565

    It measures 40" x 30"

I think I remember paintings are repaired by adding a 2nd piece of canvas over the tear & then painting it the same color? Could/should I do that with this one? Is it worth having it repaired professionally?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Liveauctioneers has several that were sold attributed to her that sold from $50-$150. Some were just signed SchArff like yours and one has initials E.S. SchArff with the last name looking like yours to me.

Just searching Liveauctioneers by the last name there are others that appear to have the same sig and same style that were attributed to Ralph SchArff.

I have the same painting, oil, however the signature is different. Also, the detail around the house on the right is different. Mine is in desperate neednof a clean, but like you, I'm not sure what to do with it.
I would love to know for sure who the artist is, but I do think it is Ralph Schartt.
I'm unable to upload the photos. The signature has a lower-case 'a.'

The signature is a good match for others on painting attributed to Erna Scharff & the style is more like hers than like the other Scharffs, but what is very odd about this one is that there are all those people in it. All others Google chooses to show me are idyllic landscapes with water, no humans.

If you're unable to upload images it may simply be that they are too large.....they need to be UNDER 1 MB......

It’s in SIS link from live auctioneers by E.S.
    Looks a little different though.

Nope, that's it! I was at the auction house in Dania (think Ft Lauderdale; I believe it's a suburb? of it) and no one bid after my opening bid!

The sails of the ships look like Galway hookers to me.

I just noticed the windmill in Journeymagazines painting. Maybe that indicates something.

The picture above is similar to mine, but missing the house beyond on the right.

And that's where ours differ...mine has no windmill and more greenery.

Do you know how to start your own thread? You can post it, but best not to add it here, as it might cause confusion.
But that was the closest painting I could find.
