She's just lovely. I find the veining makes the stone more interesting, although I know not everyone would feel that way. Now my avatar has a sister. I assume a careful examination for a signature came up negative?

    Thank you!
    You’re absolutely right.
    That’s right, no signature.
Your sister is definitely a cut above mine and I don’t mean just the signature. I like the facial expression of your cameo, especially the lips.

I don’t know what to make out of the setting, though. It’s t-bar and c-clasp but it looks modern. That makes it more wearable, I suppose.

I have not been buying much these days, my collection runneth over, but when I see hardstone being sold as glass, it's hard to resist. She's a little thing, not much bigger than a dime.

Think the white specks are the dust from the corn cat litter that seems to get everywhere, which of course means the cats get everywhere.

She is so delicate. I love these full figure cameos, especially white on black.
Unfortunately, I have not seen any nice ones at a reasonable price.
    Great find!

A good, solid piece of work, cameo & mount. Does she swivel? She's not clearly identifiable as a particular figure but when a diadem is the only available attribute the default ID is Hera/Juno. Lovely piece. Recent acquisition?

I hadn’t bought her when I posted but I have now!.
I followed my feeling that as she was in a lovely frame and looked nicely carved that I went ahead and bought it. She was £40 which I hope was fair but she pleases my eye anyway.
I will post more photos when she arrives. I don’t know if she swivels/ did swivel but that would explain the gap at the edge.
    A couple of questions Bronwen-
Why would a cameo be designed to swivel?
    Is the closed back unusual?.
Dating- I can see the pointy nose isn’t pointy enough to be 50s so earlier?.The frame style looks quite old? Pin long?
Thanks for looking , I appreciate it!.
I’ve also got one with a signature to post :)

There is only a partial signature- presume acid etched and someone spilled the acid!
I think she was in a gold mount and been damaged on removal:(
Any idea of age? Pointy nose creeping in but pearls and hoop earrings?

There are cameos in mounts that have a memento compartment behind the cameo & set in a frame that swivels so the brooch can be worn with either face to the front. The plate behind the cameo is consistent with there having been a compartment on the other side.

Maybe someone with more general jewellery knowledge will take a look & have an idea when these 'puffed' frames were in vogue. I would put it to the last part of the 19th century. It's not 20th.

She's kind of a dressed up version of ponytail girl, so I have to think she's 50s or later.

Signature, what there is of it, unusually clear for acid. I don't recognize it. Wonder if the first 2 letters are Qu? The area that looks like a smear is natural to the shell, but it hides anything inscribed there.
