My second American Brilliant Cut Glass Bowl. I'm going to have to add a wing soon, but I could NOT resist it.

 

That's the first time I've seen an Occupied Japan cloth item. Very nice and a keeper.

I was surprised when I flipped it.

 

Vienna Art Plate - tin. Pat Feb 21, 1905. Saw a lot of wear these last almost 116 years, but interesting none the less.

 

I stumbled across both of these items today at a roadside yardsale i know thier both ww2 era was happy to have spent $10.00 for both going to have to do some research on value.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm obsessed with research and all types of references, with just way too many books (okay, it's actually never enough books) - had a Dutch book in my Amazon cart for years, not in any particular hurry, it's not uncommon nor particularly pricey, but when I was ordering another book on Dutch silver, decided to add this one. One of the two lowest price options, with nothing cheaper anywhere else (I use my books, so great condition isn't always that important to me), couldn't resist the one described as in "used - very good condition, with custom binding" - it sat waiting to be accepted at the East coast PO for three weeks, and finally arrived, nicely packaged, after four weeks. Not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't a linen and marbleized paper bound hardcover with stamped leather title and author (it was published in 1979 as a trade paperback) - the 1986 inscription was from this guy, https://mathshistory.st-andrews.ac.uk/Biographies/Truesdell/ , who collected 18th century art and antiques, and apparently liked to sometimes dress in 18th century style.

Not difficult to imagine him insisting on a custom binding. I wonder who did the work. An instance where the binding and provenance probably gives a nice kick to the value.

 

I guess we all know where to find Cheryl for the next couple of days. She will be quietly "pawing" through her new acquisitions.

 

I'd have snagged both too and been merrily researching. The black stone in that ring is either lava or it's seen some hard wear (read: had the snot banged out of it). The latter had something to do with ordinance, either use or disposal.

Went hunting in two stores today and only ended up with two pieces. One of them is on my finger, but I think it's headed to the antique store on Saturday. The other will by Happy Valentine's Day sister. My sister's piece is sterling and freshwater; it's a delicate heart necklace. Cost $5. The other was the Deal of the Day. 14k men's wedding ring with a tiny blurred out maker's mark (under 40x it's just a larger blur) about a size 8.5 - 4.5 pennyweights of tri-tone gold. $35... hustled that out the door so fast.... The other image is my prize from last Friday, or one of them. Kid's partial metal tea set, Humpty Dumpty pattern. Ohio Arts. $5. If nothing else it'll be easy to ship.

I got really, really excited when I found this Acoma pot at the estate sale and noticed the signature...

...and then I realized that it wasn't Marie Chino but someone else. I probably should'a been able to tell to from the lack of patina, but one is always hopeful! Still quite pleased with the purchase.

This isn't an antique, But I was looking for a serving bowl at G W and found this 9" Delft style bowl for $5.00.
