My son found it today when he was working on a house on the Cape. Periodically, people find all kinds of ordnance from when the military base was active.

Also, is it dangerous in this condition?

The bloom is a steel core turned to rust

It was only ever dangerous when it was moving

Here's a photo with the correct colors. So it is a bullet? It's 3" long as is. 2014-06-13 16.37.12 (640x480).jpg

Nice. My son picked it up in their seashell driveway. Either the fishermen who sold the batch of shells dragged it up or the owner found it somewhere and dropped it. We'll never know. As I said, lots of ordnance on Cape Cod beaches from training.

The problem is that it is hard to tell how old it is. The Navy still uses the .50 cal machine gun. So it could be from 70 years ago or from last year.

They haven't shot on the Cape in a long time. I worry that it's one of the ones that had uranium in it.

Some of the bullets used for awhile had spent uranium in them.
