I got this lock and key at a garage sale for $5 (they had three more and I'm debating if I should go back and get the others). But I was wondering if it was meant for a desk or a cabinet of some sort?

Also if anybody know who it was made by? Like Yale or something. And how old it might be?

I attached a picture of the lock and key

I don't know what kind of lock that is, but some skeleton keys sell for decent money.... so let's hope someone here can help you out with info.

I can’t really judge the size, but it looks to be from an interior door.
    Maybe someone else will know.
    Maybe include measurements.

The plate is 2" x 4" and the key is 3" long. There were three other ones (same style, which someone bought right before I got there) but they were a little smaller. Like 1.5" x 3".

    Hi,
I have dozens of the "skeleton" keys. I save them for people to try and fit pieces that they have. I have found matches for all my pieces. I think I have helped 30 to 35 people find matches for them. Sorry Bev but it is cheaper than going to a locksmith.

As far as age I would guess 30 or 40s :)

That's a furniture key all right; I have the same ones still in use. Mostly they were used to keep little Johnny out of the china cabinet to prevent ceramic carnage. Those locks weren't much use for keeping a thief out.

    Most definitely a wardrobe/closet key.

I save the keys from them and china cabinets, sideboards etc from house clearances.

I never retain the lock, just the key and dump the furniture.

The keys always come in useful for better antique and valuable stuff.

I have these at home and around 300 in my storage lock-up.
    Even clock keys.

    One similar to the OPs

Definitely a furniture door lock. Here is how it would mount to the interior of the door. A hole would be drilled through for the key and an escutcheon on the outside would finish the look.
