I think your ducks ate the rest of that post! That said, most violins marked Stradivarius are Central European copies. Not fakes per se, just made according to the same model. With violins, however, if it sounds good it is good; the label doesn't always determine value.

Nice ducks; but as Evelyb30 says, the Stradivarius label is somewhat of a tradition; probably half of all violins ever made have such a label; or 25% anyway. The chance that this was made by the real Mr. Stradivarius is zero. Better-quality instruments will have the label of their real maker, so the Strad label actually means it is not a very good quality instrument; but for anything more you'd have to take it to a violin shop for evaluation.
A violinist could play it, and tell you if it sounds good or not; but "sounds good" could mean it is worth $200, or $2,000...only a good violin shop can tell.

Do not sit on it, it is indeed not furniture...;)
I have a strad copy too, it's from 1910 and it has a great sound. Cherish yours, it was your dad's, must have a lot of emotional value. I wish I had my grandma's but I like to pretend the 1910 strad was hers, it's at least from when she was young.
