Info on table found in basement?

Can anyone help me identify the age of this table that was left in my basement? Or even what kind of wood it’s made out of and why the numbered metal tag underneath it means? Any info at all will help!

 

the files of the pics are too big. I’m going to have shrink and post in a few.

can't see the forest for the trees...
but....the tag could be a work station number as the oak table looks to be a work bench....with that heavy hardware, & double over paint...

 

I was also thinking it was originally a work bench. I’m in the metro Detroit area so figured it may have came from an old automotive factory. You think it’s from 1940s? I planned on stripping the paint layers off and restoring it to a natural wood finish but wanted to find out as much about it as possible before I do anything to it.

Looks like a commercial table for a library or school. Styling suggests 1920 but may have been made for a lot of years unchanged. Looks like oak. Tag is probably an inventory tag.
