i need help with a dagger

hi. i had found a dagger in france. can anyone help me vith it?

 

could be a kitchen knife...a spear point....a fence decoration.......I can't see it well or enough of it to make a call.
It should be x-rayed....

 

The blade is realy short and this thing aside is a cover of the blade it fits perfectly. Sorry for my poor english.

 

your english is fine , but what you ask is impossible to know from just pictures..

Dagger? Well I’ll take a stab at identifying it.

Photos showing the entire object, end to end, with ruler would be helpful. You say “really short” but is that 3 cm? 20 cm? No clue here, kindly give more info and at least length and width.

Also please give the location in France. If it is near any WW1 combat area the object may be a bayonet. If you are digging in a WWI battle area, that can be hazardous to your health!

 

I think Croatia had it's conflicts also.....

Yes I looked, very hard to tell anything except it looks old. You need to have it x-rayed, and if it is of historical significance have it stabilized and preserved by professionals. As soon as something like that leaves its place of rest and is exposed to air, it degrades rapidly and soon you’ll have only a handful of iron oxide.
