Any recommended reading material on these - particularly the 19th c. French examples. Complete sets tend to be out of my price range, but I have bought single side pieces (broken up sets) and I'm amazed at the quality of most examples - brass casting detail seems to be as good as it gets, and the marble & slate work, also excellent. I've been finding single pieces for prices of $25-$75, which I consider low for antique objects of high quality and design.

T'would be fun to put together a complete set from individual pieces.
