Help with gold hallmark rams head?

I can’t understand how this antique ram’s head from 1819/1838 figures on these...
And the place where it is struck on the earring is non consistent with hallmarking rules.

 

Hi.. Thank you for your time to reply.. Do you think it is the French Rams Head hallmark?. I have been looking at some from period pieces online.. granted the hallmarks are more rubbed.. I am not convinced that this hallmark is the same.. but in all honesty i dont have a clue... I did read Tunisia has a rams head hallmark but i cant seem to find one online to compare...

It looks a bit like the Czechoslovakian ram's head silver mark, with those smaller horns. Not like your mark:

The french ram's head hallmark:

 

Yes, a 100% match, and it has the lozenge shaped maker's mark typical of France too. There is only this 'small' matter of the date.

 

Impossible for this piece to be from 1819-1838 A back to the future case???
And the inappropriate place of the stamp

The setting of the diamonds is not very professional, maybe a reworked older piece? It also seems to me as if the piece was hallmarked before the stones were set.

 

Even with the blurry photo the stones appear to be securely set.The pave setting looks good to me.

 

they may be securely set, but definitifly not in a straigth line and the "prongs" (I would not even go so far and call them proper prongs, just small scraps of metal pushed against the stones) come all from different angles.
In my opinion it is just a horrible setting, whoever set the stones was not a trained stonesetter/goldsmith

 

Do you think you could do better? How many pieces of jewelry with pave set stones have you made?

The Van Cleef & Arpels setting is at the top end... and even an ordinary person can spot the differences

don't get me wrong the earings in this posting have their right to exist, they are apperently made of gold and set with diamonds, they sparkle, they look as if they are over the top and they certainly are something special.
I just wanted to indicate that they are not "perfect" and how they differ from a piece of jewellery made by a skilled craftsman

 

I must say, that was one of the first things I noticed about these earrings. Which is why I didn't say anything about the earrings as such, just about the mark.
You were right to say it though, as a professional and because you gave an example of quality pavé set. That made your remark informative, rather than just criticism.

 

Very useful - and those comparisons with high end do show the clumsiness of these.
