    Helmeted heads appear on real Renaissance furniture as well, but rarely this big. This chest is definitely revival, very popular in Continental Europe during the first half of the 20th century.

    Yeah, I'd guess that is correct, one thing for sure, it's not a period piece.

    Let me throw something else in here. People from Catalunya went to Cuba to make their fortunes - hence, Bacardi which was invented by a Catalan. They came back and built astonishing houses with the fortunes they made. Alicante/Alacant is sort of Catalan, albeit not part of the autonomia. It's feasible this was made in the Caribbean with Conquistador style carving and brought back.

    And many people fled Spain after the Civil War of the 30s and went to Latin America. Many refugees came back after Franco died in 1975.
