Here's the situation. I'm storing an antique, glass chandelier for my daughter. We were trying to find an affordable hauler to ship it to Georgia from Massachusetts. We finally decided we'd drive it down. Then Covid hit. I had it crated and I'm paying to have it stored at a local facility that has temperature control. I'd really like to get rid of that extra expense. The only place we have to safely store it here is out in an unheated workshop. I'm worried about the temperature. Do any of our glass experts have an opinion on this? It's an heirloom from her father's side of the family and I don't want anything to happen to it while it's in my hands. Thanks.

I had an excellent experience with USHIP. A consortium of small haulers. You will be offered reasonable prices. @James Conrad has had more experience with them and maybe would like to chime in. You can select your shipper by their ratings. I had several conversations with the company I selected to discuss the need for care of my period Chippendale chair. I also had a large heavy glass curio cabinet brought from the second floor of an apartment building to my house for a reasonable price. You might consider this.

Hi Bev, there is a company that ships large items like furniture, some of our CCADA dealers use them. They are called UKAY (ukaydelivery.com), try them :)

Glass is pretty forgiving of temperature and humidity fluctuations in a reasonably secure storage setting. I'd be more concerned about the metals in the fixture. What types are there?

It's sudden change that glass doesn't like.

It's being stored in a temp controlled warehouse at Magnum Moving in Eastham. So far, I haven't been able to find a shipper that will do it unless they have a full pallet and none have been going from the Cape to Atlanta. I'll try Ukay since they're available on the Cape. I don't know about the metal. It was a family heirloom she inherited from her father's side of the family. I didn't really look at it before it was crated when we moved it down from the Boston area. This was a year ago pre-Covid and we'd planned on driving down in September.

I also don't want to spend a fortune on this. It's no doubt worth something to my daughter, but not necessarily monetary value.

What is the storage costing you vs. shipping?

That, and colliding with the ground!

Perhaps post a photo...can it be disassembled? Is it a metal fixture with glass shades?
