Satsuma Plate - Testing my Intrepretation

    Hello Board Friends! I'm trying to educate myself a bit on Satsuma. I come across pieces occasionally and I've decided I like it enough to create a small collection. I bought this plate this weekend and want to see if my research skills are moving in the right direction. The plate is 8 5/8" across. If I'm reading my book right (Andacht) the mark on the back is a generic Satsuma mark and the diamond pattern are kame (tortoise) symbols. I'm a little lost from there though. I think the figures represent children. The medallions differ slightly in that two medallions feature two figures and the other represents three. I'm not sure what they are doing. Does the center decoration and the other round gold decorations represent coins? Any aid in helping me understand what I am seeing would be much appreciated. Thank you!

    It looks like they represent 'Mon' or 'Kamon', Japanese crests. Those can be family crests, regional, national, imperial. Mon are often found on kimonos and other clothing, but can be seen just about anywhere.
