Can this necklace be fixed/repaired?

This crystal necklace belonged to my late Mother. She was born in 1912 and so I know it has some age to it. It would have been purchased during the 1930s or 1950s as a gift to her from my Father.

As you can see, one of the two rows of crystals has broken away from the clasp, and my attempt to re-string it using nylon fishing line was futile and didn't work :(

It seems a shame to have it sitting in a box in the state that it is in, and I'm fairly certain none of the crystals are missing... Can it be fixed? And how best to fix it please?

Hi @ritzyvintage If you find someone who makes jewelry, I'm sure it can be repaired. Those are Aurora Borealis crystals. My mother's set, choker and clip earrings, were her best and favorites. The choker was too short for me and clips drive me nuts. My hairdresser makes jewelry as a hobby and offered to restring the necklace and make new earrings using mama's crystals. I now have a beautiful long string of auroras and dangle earrings of crystals on French wires. She purchased additional crystals to extend the necklace so she made me a lovely bracelet. So I was able to wear these for my son's wedding! Someone with the right tools and experience shouldn't have too much trouble with it!

It can be restrung, no problem. If you are brave get a book or search for instructions off the internet and give it a try.

Great info, Linda. Is "Aurora Borealis" the name of the maker? The clasp does appear to have some hand-scribed letters & numbers on it. Subject to the cost I'm wondering if I can have it repaired by an experienced person, by mail/post. It was my Mum's favourite piece too, as to why I kept it.

    Hi,
Aurora Borealis is the multicolor finish used on crystals. It was invented in the 1950s and named after the "northern lights" in the sky.

What did you do to offend the locals, show them an Antony Gormley statue? I have heard that upsets them.
