Picked this doll up at an estate sale. Clothes look original. Everything is in good condition, doll is clean and the clothes are in great condition. I don't see any markings. The baby bottle says JAPAN on the bottom. I think the pillow may be original to the doll. The diaper has a snap, the back of the dress has snaps covered with buttons.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Looks kind of like one from the Alexander-kins line by Madame Alexander. But I thought all of their dolls were marked on the back of the head or upper back, so I'm not sure. Wait for the more informed ones!

What is the size of your doll?

EDIT: I just found the following info about Alexander-kins:

1954-1994 Alexander-Kins doll, Billy, Quiz-kins, Wendy Ann, Wendy, Wendy-Kins, 7 1/2 - 8" tall, use the Wendy face mold. Many Alexander-kin dolls are unmarked or marked: ALEX. After 1976 marked: ALEXANDER

Japan made many things in that era that closely resembled items made by big companies. I collect old Hagen Renaker horses and Japanese makers copied many of them, some quite well.

Those copies sell for surprising amounts to collectors like myself today. We may not want to "pony up" (pun intended) $500 for the real deal but we can be a sucker for the MIJ one for a couple of hundred. There is no shame amongst my group of collectors about it either. We would never portray them as something they are not but they are copied so close that they please us in their own way.

If this doll closely resembles one of the above mentioned dolls there may be more value then you would think for an MIJ baby doll IMHO.

Would the Alexander Kin dolls be MIJ?

    Hi Kath!

Alexender kins are more like the Ginny Vogue dolls. Alexander kins are made by MME ALEX.

your doll is a baby doll, and looks to be made of soft vinyl.

Sure there isn't a mark on the back of the neck or on her back? Did you look for labels on the clothing?

Because the bottle is marked Japan, it doesn't mean the doll was made there also......altho it might've have been.

Is her mouth open to be a drink and wet doll?

Hi Judy!! LTNS! There is a hole in the mouth and a hole in the backside under the diaper. No clothing tags, the hair is right down to the neck so I don't see anything. It is older for all clothing to be snap.

Hi Kath! Does that mean that you can't lift the hair out of the way to view the neck?

Soft vinyl probably came out in the 60's and later.

She is a cute doll......her little round mouth reminds me of a Ginny, but she would be marked and I don't think Vogue made a baby doll that size.

Unusual that the hair can't be lifted.

She is considered a Modern collector doll, and not an antique.

You might try searching for modern drink and wet doll.

I'm on my laptop.....not liking it at all..........

however my PC picked up a virus and I can't pull a thing up on it.

It happened yesterday.....bright red screen ALERT with a # to call. I shut down quickly but it was too late.

Happened one day last too, but I was able to escape any damage.

I know someone who might be able to help bring it back!!

I'm happy to have this laptop, but I much prefer my pc.

Hi Judy, I know very little about modern dolls as I have collected only antique ones, bisque, wax, papier mache, wood etc. Sorry I can't be of help here .. Joy.

For the most part Joy, so have I.

But I think Kath found her doll.

    I'll check my MA book,

Kath....she came out in 1948.....hard plastic head.

    No wig.

I'd check for marks and tagged clothing.

She might even be marked on her back.
