image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Picked this up today when It is VERY heavy and comes apart. There's a metal rod that the dolphin is placed on that sits on the base. This sculpture stands roughly 14 inches tall.

Hmmm...hard to tell. Could be resin -- would be heavy at that size. If it had some colour variation, I would have thought soapstone. Dunno if there's any totally black soapstone.

Dall's Porpoise, Harbour porpoise and pacific whitesided dolphins are the three most common but there well be different kinds in alaska.

Not saying this is Alaskan but just stating that there are dolphins and porpoises in Alaska.

I know porpoises have a smaller snout and are shorter in length. This sculpture doesn't appear to be a porpoise.

Not Alaskan IMHO. Looks like the sculptural equivalent of a factory painting.

    Resin sculptures are from molds.

I've read that resin sculptures are made from a synthetic fiberglass material. I accidentally hit these pieces together and they gave off a sound of that like glass. Not only that, these pieces where carved and polished down.

Many resin pieces are mixed with large amounts of powdered stone and are very "stonelike" after hardening.

Hang on, my memory just got jarred....I remember my parents having two large statues from Hawaii that had bottoms that resemble the bottom I have on this dolphin. Thinking back to those pieces, I'm very confident that this is not resin, as I remember those two figures were.

This dolphin sculpture is far different than other resin pieces I've seen.
