I bought several beautiful books at an estate sale in New Orleans from someone high in the clergy. My favorite is this book titled Illustrious Women Of Bible and Church History by Mgr.Bernard O'Reilly. Inside were several letter from the Vatican from the 1940s. The cover isnt in good shape but the pages are. The pages have discoloration but still 25 beautiful pictures. It was obviously in a library at some point. I have found info about the book but nothing with this beautiful cover. Any info is greatly appreciated. 20180403_214354.jpg 20180403_214443.jpg 20180403_214317.jpg 20180403_214538.jpg 20180403_214623.jpg 20180403_214913.jpg 20180403_214416.jpg 20180403_214557.jpg

Very poor condition. The brown is foxing and lowers any value.
Also, it is an ex library edition.

I see that you are interested in buying old books. If buying because you just want to read them, then condition doesn't really matter. However, if you are buying because you think they are an investment and you might want to sell them at a later date, then it might help to understand what makes a book more valuable than another.

    This is from Wiki

Also there is a great forum that you could read and maybe pick up pointers.
It was started by people from the old ebay forums.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Just FYI, about that last link... the BookThink site contains many articles and reports that are of great use to booksellers. It is excellent for information about most matters related to bookselling (and also there is a lot to read for people interested in book collecting or book history.)It is a public website. Anybody can read it but there is nowhere to post on most of the pages.

The forum attached to the BT site is at this address: http://www.bookthink.com/php3.10/index.php

You have to sign up for the forum before you can read any messages or post there. You can also ask questions there. Activity there has died down quite a bit so you might not get a reply right away.

Thanks for all the info! Ill check out the links. I do find book collecting interesting and would like to know more about the subject, but my books are just for fun. I do read some of the religious ones, but they mainly look good with my old furniture. I would never pay more than $5 for one.
