Hey everyone. This is my first post because I've got a situation that's been killing me for months.

Long story short. My girlfriend and I came across the perfect chair. This magnificent gold and pinkish red cut velvet...

    Thrift store was closed,
So she went the next day right when they opened to pay and have it put on hold.

The next day, it was gone. They had sold it to someone else, solince someone forgot to actually pin the sold side onto it.

My girlfriend is now heartbroken over it. (It was only 25 DOLLARS!!)

So I'm trying to track something similar down. And with months of research I've gotten real close, but nothing as magical as the real thing.

It would absolutely incredible if any extra information could lead to finding something similar. Or heck, if someone knows a person with the same chair and they're willing to sell!

(Most things I've found are pieces that have been sold out for far too long and thousands of dollars)

Anyway. Thank you so much guys. Can't wait to dig up any remotely new dirt

    Looks 1970s.
I'd be going to the estate sales. Most estate sales these days are from people who set up housekeeping in the 70s.
Keep in mind, sometimes things happen for a reason, maybe she wasn't meant to have this chair because there is something better. Try the estate sales.

Have you considered looking for a similarly shaped chair and getting it upholstered in fabric like that?

I wonder if similar new-old-stock vintage fabric rolls could be located online.

I have some couch pillows here that appear to have a quite similar pattern.
They are from my grandmother. I can't say they are my cup of tea, but they are memories of her so they sit on her, now my rocking chair. :)

Much good luck on your hunt.

I know the feeling...as a suggestion, go on eBay and look up 20th century upholstered chairs. My guess is that there will be a ton of them, which will provide perspective, that they aren’t super-obscure, and another one will turn up. I also like looking at the different chairs on the Chairish website. These are helpful to peruse, to develop an “eye,” so that if you or she see another chair that you like, you will know more about it and how common (or rare) it is.

Just so you know, reupholstery can be very, very expensive (but worth it if done right). I like wood-frame vintage chairs, and I can find some that are beautifully carved or turned, and over 100 years old, for not a lot of money, when the upholstery is a mess. You will likely find one like that at a thrift store. If you put in that investment, you will have a chair that you adore.

    So, keep looking!

Definitely 70s and most likely to be found at thrifts and estate sales. You also might check your local craigslist and facebook marketplace. Generally see this type of chair in a plain gold or green velvet. The patterns are seen less often. Not an identifiable company or particular style. Searching 70s velvet chair on google, I find several that are very similar or identical in different fabrics. Most were on Pinterest and not identifiable or available. Good luck in your search.

Thank you all for the help so far. And so quickly as well.

Definitely have thought about reupholstering something similar but I just can't find any vintage fabric that's as close as I want it to be (even just something mustard, or gold just regular velvet, not cut). And new upholstery just doesn't have that depth.

In terms of style, I've found some nice looking high back club chairs, or some Mediterranean armchairs that kinda fit the part. But none of the right colors yet.

But I'm gonna keep on tryin!!

    Thanks guys!
