Unusual Badge Brooch with Coat of Arms (Military?)

I posted this brooch a few months ago with the lot of jewelry I had purchased. I tried researching it since then, but wasn't able to find out more. Taking a closer look at it, I realized that the back of the brooch does not match the front. There is a definite layer between the back of the brooch and the decorative area, as if the back was put on at a later date. The back also has a shinier color and does not appear as old. Could it have originally been a military pin or decoration of some sort? It's pretty big, measuring at 3 inches tall and 2.5 inches wide at largest points.

 

One unusual thing is the points seem to maybe cut here to fit. But maybe that was original. Just pointing out. Maybe you could look closely and see if they look cut.

 

I didn't even notice that. They do look cut, especially under a loupe. Another thing that I didn't notice until now is that the actual coat of arms portion (with the trident and ax) is a different color than the surrounding metal. More of a rose-gold tone than brass.

 

Seems there’s a mystery to be figured out!

 

Possibly the emblem bottom right is a military rank emblem. Just a guess.

BarnOwl, in your right side circle, (or maybe they're @Huntingtreasure's circles) it looks like there's a drop of solder, for whatever reason.....that looks like it just doesn't belong there....and yes the two points do look like they have been cut.........

 

It looks like a "marriage" piece,but the photos don't show how the 7 or 8 pieces not including the findings were held together.
