They were still making silver ones at the turn of the last century. Alas, those aren't bringing much any more. The ivory miniatures may do better; at least I hope they do!

Does the cavalry bugle still make noise? Or is it deader than the Emperor?

The question is... would anyone want to hear it? And if it's windy, smell it?

XIIII rather than XIV was a common usage in the 18th and 19th, especially when marking furniture. Less ambiguous.

I went to an estate sale too darned early this morning, really a moving sale but whatever, and... bingo. Finally. Bingo. First shot - artisan sterling and hematite, and the tip of the iceberg of a PILE of trade beads. Then, jewelry. The earrings in the upper left have gold fittings. The face is Ghanaian bronze. Sterling pins including the Zuni one. One of two Ghanaian batiks, and a small ebony carving. This isn't all, but... bingo. I'm probably going to string some of the beads with the mask before selling as a necklace. DSCF8733sm.jpg DSCF8734sm.jpg DSCF8746sm.jpg DSCF8753.JPG

Johnnycb, I am just curious but . . . how many places did you have to visit to find all of those items?

I really like the bowl and matching plate. ;)
