I've previously expressed my disgust at Goodwill at the items they toss in their dumpster in favor of the cheap junk they stock their store with. I found these in the dumpster a couple of weeks back and I thought I'd share them.

Great Save! I especially like the 3-D? ones with Santa in sleigh, tree and elf.
    Right time, right place.

I particularly like the gray ones with scenes in white silhouette. Granny had those. Brings back memories.
I don't blame them for tossing them. They are notoriously fragile and difficult to sweep up once dropped. All those kids running around.

If it were just these, I'd probably agree. But the good stuff they throw out on a regular basis is plentiful enough that on any given night you will frequently run into other people going through the trash. One man told me his friend stocks an entire store out of what he finds there.

And yet I don't think I've ever found a single thing within the store that was worth buying. :shaking my head"

LOL. I was doing a little dumpster diving behind a strip mall without too much luck. One day I drove by the goodwill after hours and thought I'd take a look. Sitting right on top were several nice items. I've been back a few times since then to see what I can find.

so glad you saved them from the landfill TDC:)
    lol Aquitaine:)

  13. Beautiful! So sad to see stores send perfectly good items to a landfill, but nice you were able to save them! The Goodwill's in my area all have gates up at night, so I can't imagine what all goes in theirs

    Hi,
I used to car pool with a woman who lived about two miles from me. I used to walk a mile to meet her. There was a Goodwill about 100 feet from me. They used to open at 10AM. People would pile stuff outside their door. While I was standing there one day, a guy pulled up and loaded all the "loot" into his truck. I thought it was odd but perhaps he pulled around the back and opened the store early. This went on several times a week, then stopped. The guy was arrested for stealing for stealing donations from the store.

I don't think the sorters and the people that set prices at thrift stores have much training or knowledge about modern goods let alone antiques where it takes some skill to identify and evaluate items. I've heard locally they pay many of their workers minimum wage for these types of duties.

    Very nice find.
I bet collectors would like those if you plan to sell.
Or you can enjoy them on your tree.

Many of the goodwill employees are people fulfilling their community service hours. I have known several people that have done their court ordered CS there.

BTW Nice ornaments most if not all , seem to be older (50’s and 60’s). I recognize many from my childhood in the 60’s

I made a donation to my local Goodwill today. There are several homeless people who camp out and steal things that people leave outside of the doors. I make sure I go inside and leave my things with the employees. I support Goodwill's mission, of teaching people skills and employing them, and have given them quite a few furniture pieces over the years.
