Hi all. Picked this up recently mainly because it was so ghastly that I just knew it had to be something interesting ! 8 inches high,5 across the base. I *think* its some super old English porcelain ,but that could just be because Ive been bingeing on BBC Antiques Roadshow . Its just so bizarre how could I not bring it home ? So how about it folks, someones artistic vision,or a really bad hobbyist piece ?

The only Ainu I'm aware of are the indigenous people of Japan.

...and unlikely the Ainu would be walking around nude, it's cold up there!

There has to be a story in there somewhere.

It is so unusual I would have grabbed that in a NY minute. But no idea who/what/where!

    Is it a vase?

Maybe show the entire bottom, it's a bit hard to tell what is what from the close ups.

The story seems to be a mother fighting a bear, notice the dog under the bear ? And moms got a sword. And the bear by the ear! of course, hes got one of her kids ! Ive googled trying to see if this is a legend somewhere but so far no luck.

That base doesn't say amateur hour. I'd bet that the ceramic part is mold-made, but the painting was done by a 10 year-old! The bear was designed by someone who'd never seen a bear. Unless maybe it's a Beast, and no one's ever seen the Beast. I'd think it was from Revelation, but that talks about a Woman and her Child, not children.
