Flatware Marked 1422 And Seethaler

This stuff came in a large box lot of over 100 collector spoons (another post for those!) as well as some German spoons from WWI.

Anyway, not a book nor interweb search have yielded who made this flatware. It really can't be from 1422, right?

 

A quick Google search of "Seethaler silver marks" got me these, since he was active 1796-1835 1422 may be a pattern number.

What's the number in the oval? 12? 13?

 

No number. It's an "S" with two squares touching corners (or two diamonds).

 

In that case, I have no idea.

 

The lancet style handle is typically 19th century, usually first half, the 'S' under the Augsburg pine cone mark, as said in Marie's citation from the ASCAS site, indicates 1807 production (Seethaler was still working when the 1832 'S' mark was used, but it had a more rotund pine cone), no idea what the '1422' indicates - the fineness is likely .750 (12 loth)...

Abweichungen von dieser 13 Lot - Vorschrift, die es durchaus gab, bedurften der Genehmigung des Rates - und erhielten dann auch keinen "Pyr" als Beschauzeichen! Die Prüfung des Feingehaltes oblag in diesem Fall auch nicht dem Geschaumeister, sondern wurde hier vom Münzmeister vorgenommen. Die Teile bekamen andere Garantiezeichen, wie "Französisch Silber" (Feingehalt ca. 14 ½ Lot) den Stempel "14:2:2" (entspricht 914/1000), die Punze "14" oder "15" für 14 Lot oder 15 Lot.

if it wasn't the normal 13 Loth it had to be checked by the master of the mint and was marked otherwise without the Pyr (Zirbelnuss) or pinenut.
so you have rather rare stuff in 914 silver.
