and if you are saying that this beautiful knife couldn't be used to impersonate an officer . you are wrong . this knife used with the right props could indeed fool someone .

Not a chance of this knife being mistaken for a police issued weapon except by an extremely uninformed person (idiot)! and even if it was a Police Issue there would be NO problem with selling it as long as it was legally obtained. As to the laws pertaining to these items in Canada I can only speak about the United States Laws and Codes since I am a retired Law Enforcement Officer. Just because Eboo does not allow something it does NOT make it Illegal.

i had a thought , what if this (and it does look like it ) was one of the machete that was used to cut down the pot plants in columbia during the drug wars.

exactly as long as it was legally obtained is what i'm saying , and don't call me and idiot . I'm just saying to find out if it is legal you will have to talk to the police not us.

as an ex cop you should know exactly what i'm saying POLICE STUFF IS A TOUCHY SUBJECT . they made a friend of my son take his red and blue sex lights off his dash and if he didn't they were going to arrest him and charge him with impersonating an officer . I had warned him that the package said for off road use only .

one time in horseshoe bay we were having a coffee and seen a guy looking in the covered box truck we were in , we chased him down and he pulled a badge and gun on us and said he was a cop , do you think for one minute we were going to question him at gunpoint ,not a chance we calmed the situation down went back to the restaurant and called the real police . They told us that there was a number of reports about him, and they were trying to get him off the streets , the point of this story is when someone is pointing a weapon at you you are scared to death ,and not questioning anything ,but doing what you are told to do .

Just remember one thing about this knife -- it is (or is pretending to be?) issued by a FEDERAL agency of the USA -- the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration).

If you have a DEA office in your city/town you could take it there and ask them.

Or, if you have a United States Marshals Service office in your city/town you could take it there and ask if there are any problems with either keeping it or selling it.

To put it bluntly, I do not think you are wrong for wondering if this is "legal" to own or sell.

First I called no one an idiot, it was more directed to common sense. Second, under most laws the use and possession of Red and Blue lights are prohibited on vehicles exactly for the reasons stated. The companys that sell this stuff label it for off road use to get around the laws. Third, That knife never was issued as a official piece of DEA equipt and was a presentation piece only as anything officially issued would not have DEA stamped all over it (as the DEA operated covertly in most areas and do not advertise their affiliation). (sort of like a certificate of achievement). As to your problem in horseshoe bay that individual pulled a badge (real or fake doesn't matter) and a gun (big legal problem!) and than identified himself as a police officer (another violation) so rightfully so should be locked up.
I recognize the knife for what it is, a knife with neat inscription!

"I found this at a estate sale of a former DEA agent who'd passed away & the wife was selling everything before selling house and getting a smaller condo".

How would/do you know it is not an official knife, and wasn't decorated after the fact ?. P.s. i to would love to own it lol

If the year was 1870 that type of knife may have been an official issue (without the ornamentation) but NO agency that I know off and especially the DEA would utilize a knife like that today. The equipt used are purpose driven and if its fancy, not likely to be issue. As to chopping down the marijuana plants in South America a machete about 3 feet long was used most of the time.
