Featured A splendid Opalescent Glass Cameo-Stemmed Flacon de Venice

This fabulous piece stands 16" high, and a variety of glass-working methods were used to create it. The vase/goblet section features controlled air trapping & ribbed/wrythen, and uses blue-opalescent glass cased in clear crystal. The cameo-stem is faced to both sides, and as with like all good quality opalescent glass, it takes on the colour-glow of rich-golden amber wen it is lit from behind. It is by far the tallest vase in my collection.

There's some lovely facon de Venise in the Museum of London and also in the V&A, as well as in some of the glass museums in Catalunya.

 

I'd like to move into the V&A and take up squatting. So many wonderful things in there.

 

I will try to add some more pics of other items too every now and then. It's good to share

 

The V&A jewellery gallery makes me want to commit serious theft.

I was trying to figure out if the cameo lady is anyone identifiable but can't see fine detail well enough. Thought maybe Tyche, but then again, maybe not. I'm a sucker for opalescent glass.
