ikebanamini6.jpg ikebanamini1.jpg I bought this little 4" high, brown glazed terra cotta and woven bamboo basket because it wanted me too. Maybe new, just don't know. I tried searching variation of miniature, ikebana, japanese, woven bamboo, basket, hanakago, altar vase, bizen, awaji. Any ideas? It might have a very faint seal on bottom, but that could be my wishful imagination. No worries if new, I will put it on my window sill with a sprig from one my miniature orchid plants

    Some observations:

-This was spray-painted all over, probably at time of manufacture or very shortly after. None of the sprayed paint is oxidized or worn. Spray painting of objects of this type I suspect is a fairly recent development.

-The vegetable material forming the basketwork sticks out below the ceramic material at the bottom, meaning whenever the piece was set down, it came in contact with a table or whatever, but there are no signs of wear in that area.

I think hanakago is right. Could it be lacquer instead of paint? The maker of the pottery doesn't matter.

I vote new: I've seen similar in florists. Pretty with a flowering cherry branch.
