Chow tai fook brooch maybe

Hi all anyone know anything about this companies products. This was in the case but not sure if it's right. The backing finish looks like costume to me but there is a number stamped on back. The gold is a little shiny checked with 10kt acid and didn't dissolve. Thanks

 

There is a lot of information about Chow Tai Fook on the internet. And a Google Images search would allow you to compare your brooch to the company's wares. (Fyi, I suspect you're right about box and brooch being a marriage.)

I agree a nice costume brooch in a Chow Tai Fook box. The metal is die cast and gold plated, which is probably why it tests like gold. The stones are not real, the costume joolies probably know the name.
Chow Tai Fook gold jewellery is 18k and over.
The mark is a production code, 183S.

 

The brooch is a 1970s costume piece made with art glass - some call that slag but I'm not fond of that as a term. It's probably by Sphinx: they had a habit of simply numbering pieces. Very unlikely to be gold plated.

 

I agree, it doesn't look gold plated, but something Chris tested was gold. I assume it is only an outer layer, because I don't believe the entire brooch is gold. It screams costume.
