I found this in a abandoned house my friend bought to flip - is it plaster? Or chalkware? It is lightweight.
Any idea f it's age - there are no markings
    Thank you
    PS - It is big: 17"T x 16"D x 7" W !

My guess is resin of some sort. At that size I can't imagine it being chalk or plaster and lightweight.

A close look at one of the chips might help.

I had a horse head once:

Sort of wish I still had it, but if I did it would just be in a box in a closet.

It's not resin - if you look at 4t photo you can see where tip of ear was scraped & it is a white plaster or chalkware underneath

It's a Nazgul Steed from Lord of the Rings, and definitely resin.

So far as OP's horse is concerned, the only alternative that occurs to me is some low fired white ceramic. Plaster is fragile when its thin. I just think to be made out of plaster, a piece that size would have to have a bit of weight.

I wonder what one of those plaster Elvises weighs. Might provide a useful comparison.
