Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Has it been through a fire, or is all that crackling and distortion intentional???? It doesn't seem to be crackled on top....except the stopper looks warped......

The crackle is intentional and calls for some skill to do. Essentially the hot glass item is immersed in water causing it to crack and the heated to seal the cracks to prevent leakage and create stability.

If done properly, 'crackle' affects only the surface layer of the glass, does not penetrate through the body where the glass is still liquid.

Not Blenko. Pilgrim or Rainbow would be my guesses.

    Hi,
I used to find "old" bottles in my cellar pits digs which looked like yours only not with tops like yours. The bottles which were slightly misshapen and crackled. The were in a fire and then buried for years.

In my opinion, the crackles are intentional. Same with the color, amber/honey with whitish spots, that for some reason are bot visible when the bittle is held against light.

    Hi,
Thanks for the new photos. I agree that it was NOT a fire damaged bottle.

Hi Kard - I was having one of my insomnia nights so I checked my crackle glass books (one by Alford and two by the Weitmans) but couldn't come up with much so didn't post. The new pictures do help. I agree with msgood2shoe that Pilgrim and Rainbow are most likely. The white continues to throw me - I just can't seem to find a company that did that color. Could be experimental I suppose or a mistake in the formula. The other interesting thing about it (at least to me) are that the pinches are not symmetrical to each other. In other words, one pinch is near the bottom and the other more to the center of the bottle. This is one of those times I wish I could examine it in person.

Good eyes. The pinches does appear to be asymmetrical which is not very common.
