Need help with antique pottery mark. I got this pretty little dish in a lot of china and I haven't been able to identify the "R" mark on the bottom. The dish looks a lot like a saucer from a cup and saucer I found that was marked Dresden. Any ideas? R mark dish.jpg R mark dish 2.jpg R mark 3.jpg

Try Helena Wolfsohn on that saucer.

My late dad was too young to serve in WWII, and his dad was too old and missed being drafted for WWI. Mom's dad was in the first go-round. I did have a friend who was a church elder who I knew for sure served in the army during WWII. What he never said until I saw his obituary was that he was a Captain in the Intelligence service - one of the few cases where Military Intelligence wasn't an oxymoron. He never said a word.

Off the top of my head. Is that a dresden saucer with a fake Augustus Rex mark?

Decided to look it up in one of my books. Sorry, I do not think it is a fake Augustus Rex Mark. There are quite a few "R" s listed and there a few similar "r"s but none identical.

Someone abused this poor Italian pottery so I got it for a buck...hoping to remove all the hot glue without damaging it...

I have to look up Mrs. Robert Taylor. I get what you are saying about paintings. I hesitated buying one I really liked for $3,000 a few years ago by a local artist, Victor Grasso. I took a picture of it and it is a screensaver on my cell phone. His paintings now start at $20,000.....I will have to upload the one I loved. Let's see if I can find it now on the internet....

Wow - looks like you nailed it! Thanks so much. I wasn't familiar with Helena Wolfsohn. The mark is still a bit of anomaly though, as it really should have the AR mark.

Managed to get most of it off without affecting the finish - but on a couple spots on the neck some of the paint came off with the glue :(
