Another piece from my Mum. Purchased from Harvey Nichols in London in 1981, it is described as a KOREAN BOX ON STAND. The inside is lined with oriental paper. I love this but would love to know what it was used for - I am assuming travelling? Korean Box.JPG

I think it's original purpose was decorative. A home decor accessory.

I'm guessing it has no age then? Literally made in 1981? Mum used it to keep all her papers in as the lock/catch has to be in a certain place top open it. If you don't know what to do then you can't get in to it.

Havey Nicks did sell antique pieces, so don't assume it's new. It would also have been very expensive either way.

Yes, I was aware that they sold antique pieces - like Harrods - My Mum and Dad loved buying second hand bits from both stores. I have just sent an antique solid oak library table back to the UK to my Brother that they bought in 1976 from Harrods.

Nice, Lucinda, I love Korean furniture.
It doesn't look antique, but Korean furniture can be deceptive. Could we see the inside please, and the underside of the stand?

Here are the pictures of the inside and the underside of the stand (no marks, I'm afraid).

I'd say made new when it was bought from that bonded wood. Old papers used to line it.

I agree, new when it was bought. I can see why she bought it though.:)

Thank you for your input. It's still 40 years old and will certainly be an antique when my kids or grandkids inherit it ;) . I love it xx

Given it would have been expensive and it's nice quality, absolutely.
