Hello,

This has been in my mothers basement for a long time. It is a water closet or something from prior to indoor plumbing. I have never seen anything like it before. It is not home made. I was hoping that maybe somebody would have some information about it. Thank you!

It's free standing. There is a water tank on the top that gets filled and the fold down sink has a faucet. The drain from the sink goes into a removable tank on the bottom that you dump out. The lower fold down cabinet is how you access the waste water tank but must be storage for other stuff as well.

It is in the United States, Wisconsin.

 

I was thinking it was from a traincabin (ship makes sense too) except for the part on top to hold water; wouldn't there be plumbing?

I've seen variants on those which were campaign furniture.

I'm paying more attention to what is seen in the photos, it's on legs like a floor mirror. Does it freely move on those legs?

It also looks like it has access from the back.

I wonder if there might be a Sear's Catalog picturing this type of product?

It can stand on its own but it seems that it really isn't meant to be moved around a lot. Everything is accessed from the front, water filling and the waste water. The water in the sink gets poured in the waste water container when the sink is closed. I had found some old railroad lights etc as well, so it would stand to reason that this is from the railroad. Thank you everyone for all your help!

 

It looks like it's made from a high grade plywood. A friend once told me about furniture that was made from good quality plywood. Maybe reclaimed plywood. I can't remember what era or why it was created. (CRS much?)
