Think its a sugar bowl, it has a narrow slot for a spoon or something to stick out (sorry didn't take pic of that). Couldn't find the maker on 925 or in Rainwater. Anyone know?

I'm stumped too. But I see in the first of the 2 pictures showing the marks that there seems to be something inside the dark outline. Can you work with that same angle to bring it out?

Oh, and I meant to say that, depending on size, it may be a jam pot.

It's beautiful. Are the are marks on the glass?

Thanks @Bakersgma I'm more of a googler, than a knowledgeable person, so I always should be double-checked.

Well, not being a mid-century person, I had never heard of Dorothy Thorpe, so I was doing my own googling on the name when I came across the same listing. ;) And the seller showed the mark, so there you go.

You know what, I don't think that apple top belongs on the sugar bowl in that listing. I think it may be a marriage of an unlidded Dorothy Thorpe sugar with the top from somewhere else that fits pretty well. But if you look at the picture it doesn't really work that well. Everywhere else the Dorothy Thorpe sugar has no top. It isn't clear from my pic, but the glass on mine is not spherical, but also shaped like an apple, and there is no silver band on top.

    Hi Jeff,
I agree you I have never seen a lid on Thorpe sugar. I have seen a lot of glass with silver deposit by Thorpe but not with a silver lid. I think it is a jam pot as Bakersgma has stated.

That is exactly why I wanted a better picture of the mark!!

I can be too much in rush to post. I'll try to be more careful, or include a caveat all the time!:sorry:

No, no, don't hesitate and DO rush to post - throwing ideas is the best way find the answer. It made me research Thorpe - who I should know about but had never heard of before - so it is all good.

I went through both 925-1000 and Rainwater page by page before I posted but didn't see it - yet there it obviously is on 925 and I'll look again tonight and see it immediately in Rainwater I'm sure since you pointed the way. I tried but couldn't see any letter in mine since it has been rubbed out. Thanks again!

    Hi Hunting treasure,
I agree sometimes the first thing you find is right sometimes not. It is how we all learn. keep up the good work.
