Not sure if I posted this one before. I took a bunch of my cabinet cards to swap meet last Sunday, yesterday and put in a case, a few people loved them but no bites. Some people said I should not be selling them till I find out who the people are, some people said some photos looked familiar to them but could not remember names, some told me to put them away in my car, so I did.
    Anyone recognize this man ?

    Thank You

The person in the photo is not necessarily the photographer, Billy. That is a photography studio mark on the back. Since the man in the photo is not identified, Debora looked up some info on owner of the photography studio.

Billy, in (almost) all cases, it would be impossible to identify the sitters in these photographs. Photography was in its infancy in the late 1880s and thousands of cabinet cards were made. Pity that so many were separated from their families because that's where they'd be most valued.

I inherited all my cousin's stuff. She was the end of the line in her family. Her father had no near relatives and I'm the last one standing in our family. I got boxes of photos and cabinet cards of her father's relatives and I did my best to find any distant relations, but none are out there. I sold some of them because there really are folks who will buy them even if they aren't ancestors. I'd rather sell than take to the dump.

Of course. Any home is better than none. I may be wrong -- correct me if so -- but I always thought of not much value unless something of additional interest such as a pet or doll, a uniform or fashionable dress.

You're right. There could be other unpredictable things that add value depending on a collector's interests. Some people collect 19th century photos taken in certain locations, for example. But you have named several of the major things that can add value to antique photos.

I sold a lot of several of the same people to one buyer who collects family groupings.

Costumers collect them for reference on clothing, hair and jewelry styles.
