Help with Weiman age, style and wood

The wood that is not painted is its natural color, I just coated it with tung oil. What kind of wood do you think it is? How old would you guess this is? How would you describe this style? TIA

    I wish you had asked our opinions before re-purposing this piece.

    I know this an 'in' thing to do these days but in my opinion you have destroyed the value.

    Would say French Country or Provincial. Maybe a butler's desk. Seems to be birch, beech, or some fruitwood. Not terribly old. According to Google, Weiman was started in 1979.

    Agree on style description. A short history of Weiman per SBSVC from an older post:

    Weiman Furniture Co. was in business in Rockford, Illinois, after moving there from Chicago ca.1935. They built a new plant in Rockford ca.1940 & remained there until the late 1960's. The company became a division of Bassett Furniture Industries, Inc. in 1979.

    I'd guess 60's or 70's. Either way, not a lot of value to destroy by refinishing. In original condition, probably in the $150-$250 range.
