Anyone know this small symbol?

    Well, I wish I could help, but nothing is coming to mind.

    I take it that's the only picture you have? Did he make any representations about it? What did he want for it? It was by itself, no other pieces?

    There's nothing "Egyptian" about that spoon that I can see.

    And a ring "marked sterling" from Egypt? I doubt it. Egypt has its own marking system. I'm not aware of them using the English word.

    Sketchy sounds about right.

    I think Egyptian Sterling has at least 3 punchmarks.

    And note that they don't even use the 925 standard.

    Egypt has a very good and usually extensive marking system. They used Latin date letters until 1940, after that they used Arabic date letters.
    As far as I know the letters were always in a rectangular cartouche.
    Here is one set of marks, on the right date letter N for 1937-1938:

    (The cracks are not as dramatic as they look, the marks are tiny, and the bracelet they are on is very thick silver.)
