Mexican box

Not sure if I should have posted in this forum, sorry if not, hopefully someone will know more about this than I can find out. Bought from the CS today in U.K. for £1.50. I thought it was well made and decorated but I wondered about the wood used, the name of the decoration style etc. The top knop is plastic. I’m assuming the date and place written on the base is correct. Note.Name Patricia on rim. The box is 3ins high 4and a half ins diameter. Thanks.

Older travel souvenir. Name would have been carved at the time of purchase. The floral decoration is similar to that of Tonala pottery but don't know if it translate the same to wood. Acapulco and Tonala are in different states, not all that close to each other. The band on the edge of the lid, is based on pre-Columbian motifs. Don't know what type of wood would be used. Some kind of tropical hardwood.

 

Hum... The traditional crafted wood of Guerrero (the Mexican state where Acapulco is located) is lacquered.

It is very similar. The description given of celluloid ivory knob sounds much better than my plastic!
