    Somewhere in my mess of references, they're in a catalog or ad as just sugar tongs, but silver pieces were often marketed as whatever would make them sell, which sounds reasonable to me...

    I'm not saying it can't be, just doesn't look right to me. Of course I don't have it in hand and you do. If I could feel it, I might change my guess.

    You were right! Well, I struck out with the spoon, but I have no doubt about the tongs so no need to test them. I'm out 20 cents on the spoon, I'm off to put a bandaid on my ego ;)
