Can anyone help identify this statue

It's a lot closer to the OP's than mine is. But mine IS attached to a wooden base like the one you found, tie.dye.

The tail on mine isn't nearly as long and does not touch the base.

Pulled mine down to examine & compare more closely. Although quite heavy, it is definitely hollow, & there is a small hole on the back of each leg, right above where a cat's heel is.

It is proportioned more like the one under discussion, not thin & elongated like the soap holder, & also rests on the tripod of 2 hind paws & curled tail with no other base. (Mine also falls forward easily, so not very usable.) My guy holds his fish tray higher, in front of his face, & holds it from underneath. The head & face are very similar, with forward facing ears, not turned to the side like Soapy's. A major difference with mine is how the hind legs join the body: more naturalistic, with no suggestion of a seam. A couple of tiny spots on the back feet where there is no patina make me think it is cast brass.

I've found what could possibly be the original in this gallery, but I have no way of determining if it actually is. In any case I don't think the one I've got is actually worth much.

The one in the gallery is similar to yours but not the same. It's on a base, and has a long straight tale.

I always assumed mine was an Egyptian style feline with a more delicately modeled face and long, sinuous lines. It's quite surprising to see the variations.

I think it would be hilarious if Giacometti expropriated the idea from a piece like the ones we have/have been looking at, stretched it into his characteristic attenuated look for his Hotel Cat.

I found a whole page of them by googling "egyptian cat statue with tray" and looking at Images. Apparently they are quite popular.

Some of the ones that came up for me, using your link, do have the elongated body, sideways facing ears & attached base, appearing to be replicas of the Giacometti. Mine is clearly from the same litter, but different from ones we've seen so far:

Sorry the pix have some blurriness; my eyes do too.

Mine is very close to the one appearing 4th from the left in the first row.

So which came first, the whimsical butlers or the Giacometti?

Depends upon which side of the road they were on and as traffic dictated...
