Featured Picked up at garage sale today

So I found this in a rubbishy bag today for 5 bucks. The rest of the bag was nick nack stuff but found this.

Sterling stamp, and German. Will have to wait for my tester to arrive, but promising is it real silver?

 

You might want to experiment with lighting. Your images are very dark and don't provide much contrast.

I'm kind of surprised to see the sterling impressed on the handle arms, but can't make out where you see "Germany."

Let me echo Debora's comment on the lighting.

the sterling is only the handle......but....still nice !!!!!

 

I think that's a reasonable assumption. It would be nice to know how long they are.

 

And the handles are hollow, so there's less silver there than you might think.

I agree about handles. Not a clear photo, but it looks like rust where handles attach. Very nich find nonetheless. Keep up the good work!

 

Hard to say whether that's "rust" or just the cement that holds the pegs from the business end into the handles.

 

Thank you for responses, I will take better pictures when I get home. I edited and brightened couple pics to show the sterling and Germany part. The total weight of the piece is 2.7 ounces.

Ok, so it does say Germany, but I caution you not to get excited about calculating a melt value based on the total weight. Everything "above" the place where the handles are attached is most like stainless steel. The only parts that are sterling are the handles that are marked as such - and they are not solid sterling, just a hollow handle "skin."

 

I will sell as an antique piece, anything over 50 years old sells better as a piece than the true metal value. The Sterling Stamp does not hurt marketing it. I just weighed it as an example of size.

 

Out of curiosity, where are you selling and for how long?

A true antique is 100 years or more old.

I'd say the handles could be off a pair of grape shears. I saw very similar ones with grape design by Voss cutlery Germany. Maybe even original to piece?

 

I have been known to take pictures of something at a pawnshop, put it online. Get an offer then go buy it for less to sell for profit before I own it. Mostly motorcycles and firearms, but the hunt for this stuff is fun.

Not close in the details, though. All solid 800 silver, much older and nicer in style. It would be very interesting to see whether these ever sell at such a price.

 

Maybe I am an optimist, anything over $5 is profit I will keep you in the loop. Will have to test to see the details of what is silver. I thought you couldn’t see any details because of the lighting?
